Colt Express

In Colt Express, you play a bandit robbing a train at the same time as other bandits, and your goal is to become the richest outlaw of the Old West.

The game takes place in a 3D train in which the bandits can move from one car to another, run on the roof, punch the other bandits, shoot them, rob the passengers, or draw the Marshal out of position. The train has as many cars as the number of players, and each car is seeded with gems, bags of loot or suitcases at the start of play.

Goblin Quest is a roleplaying game. As you play, you’ll tell stories about goblins trying to achieve basic tasks and meeting fatal misadventure as they do it. You’ll play the goblins, and you’ll steer them through (or, more commonly, directly into) adversity, and you’ll have a fun time doing it.

It’s not a game about winning; there are no points for surviving the longest, or achieving the most goals. The aim of the game is to have fun with your friends. Even if all the goblins fail in their quest, if you’ve had fun losing, that still counts.

Goblin Quest is designed to be played from start to finish in a single sitting – it should take around 2 hours to complete a story. The more players you have, the longer the game will take to play.

In the easy-to-play, tactical card-driven board game Black Fleet, you’re in command of three different types of ships: your merchant ship earns you doubloons by conveying goods from one port to another, your pirate ship by attacking and stealing goods from merchants and burying them on islands, and the Navy ships by sinking your opponents’ pirate ships. Subdivision mimics the city-building feel of Bézier Games’ Suburbia, but differs in scope as now each player has been allocated a specific area in which to create the best possible subdivision, filling it with residential, commercial, industrial, civic, and luxury zones, while balancing various improvements to the area, including roads, schools, parks, sidewalks, and lakes. By the end of the game, each player will have created a unique, custom neighborhood with areas that interact with each other, hoping to outscore the competition by having the best subdivision.

Dog Eat Dog is a game of colonialism and its consequences. As a group, you work together to describe one of the hundreds of small islands in the Pacific Ocean, defining the customs of the natives and the mores of the outsiders arriving to claim it. One player then assumes the role of the Occupation force, playing their capable military, their quisling government, and whatever jaded tourists and shrewd businessmen are interested in a not quite pacified territory. All the others play individual Natives, each trying in their own ways to come to terms with the new regime. The game begins when the war ends. Through a series of scenes, you play out the inevitably conflicted relationship between the two parties, deciding what the colonizers do to maintain control, which natives assimilate and which run amok, and who ends up owning the island in the end. The game will come in the form of a book, with the full rules, author’s notes that explain the design process, and a brief historical overview of colonization in the Pacific.

This inspiration became the first fantasy roleplaying game, in which players are characters in an ongoing fantasy story. Thanks to a clever, original action-choosing mechanic, winning a game of Steam Park is as much a matter of being the best… as of being the fastest!

Designed by Seiji Kanai, the game is about valiant heroes, called vanquishers, who stand up to protect good people from evil villains beyond the reach of the law. Vanquishers work in the shadows, cutting down evil wherever it can be found, but they must be quick to discover the villains’ secrets and constantly hone their martial skills in order to succeed.

Each player takes on the role of a vanquisher, punishing villains the law cannot reach. But each villain holds several secrets. Some are guarded by many followers. Others threaten to kill hostages. And still others are perhaps not as evil as they appear. The vanquishers themselves are not invincible; ambushing a villain in a dark alley with no preparation could result in defeat as easily as victory. Each vanquisher holds a hand of cards representing that vanquisher’s special abilities and preparations for battle. Players must use these cards to learn the villains’ secrets, and to strengthen their own blades of justice. But using abilities takes time, and time is precious when so much evil is about. You must cooperate with your fellow vanquishers lest you yourselves become the vanquished! Will the vanquishers defeat all of the villains, or will evil prevail?

You should see how the Pandas gamble. Everything about it is familiar, yet different. The cards are oversized to fit their paws. It’s sort of like Texas Hold ‘Em poker, but you don’t have to know anything about that to play it. The whole game centers around constantly lying, which makes it a lot of fun. While they have a way of playing it for real money, they also have a way that makes for a great social or family game for 2 – 6 players.
