Review: Oath

Oats! The latest, biggest, four-letter-iest board game from Leder Games! It is not to be confused, mind, with Oath. That game SUCKS.

In this week’s review, Tom is spending a sweet half of an hour talking you through the ins and outs of this year’s most anticipated, most perplexing title. How good is it? Short answer: very – but click play for a whole bundle of words that are slightly more nuanced than that…

In Oath, one to six players guide the course of history in an ancient land. Players might take the role of agents bolstering the old order or scheme to bring the kingdom to ruin. Podcast #142 – Oath: First Impressions

In this frankly 142nd episode of the Shut Up & Sit Down podcast, Ava and Tom have been left alone again, and proceed to gush for almost an entire hour about the hottest hotgame right now: Oath! They shouldn’t let us get away with this stuff.

I can only promise that we do get to ‘how to play’ in this podcast, but it made sense for us to get whimsical about the victory conditions first to frame the rest of the rules, because they’re quite special.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

This week on Shut Up & Sit Down…

Tom: Welcome to the 15th Annual ‘This week on Shut Up & Sit Down’ weekly post! What joyous little treats have we got in our selection box this week? Just three meagre morsels? To be honest, I’d be disappointed too if my selection box only came with three chocolates/cheeses/’adventuremeats’, but what else can I tell you buddy; that’s just Brexit. Tuesday night? Myself and Matt ‘The Lees’ Lees will be going tea-to-tea in Chai: Toe for 2! Wait, no! It’s Chai Tea for Toe! Wait, no! Tea for 2! You can catch that on our Twitch channel, and you can be thankful for that untainted hyperlink after I decided that a portmanteau of Tea and Twitch into “Tweatch” didn’t deserve a regal blue glow. I’m an asset to the team, I promise. Wednesday? I can only promise that there will be a video review! Expect talk of cards, dice, and violence – all under one roof. Quinns will be delivering a barrage of white-hot content directly into your eyeballs… if you dare! Friday? Oh boy, it’s a big one. Ava and I are going to be chatting all things Oath in a podtastrophe of opinions and lingo. I’ve only gone and done 4 entire pages of notes for this one, so keen am I to get across my [opinions] on this [adjective] game! Hoooo boy, what an exciting week of good good content. What’s exciting in your week, everybody?

GAMES NEWS! 20/01/20

Ava: Sit down, esteemed guests, grab a stool and join us for the launch of the Literary Review of Games News. The place to go for the wittiest, smuggiest, and dare I say the most Lacanian dissection of play this side of Freud’s own daycare centre.

Tom: Brace yourselves for some nuanced analysis, enlightening discourse and an intellectual rigour that hasn’t been seen since my failure to get into art school.

Ava: I mean we’re just going to name drop a bunch of fancy theorists, talk in a haughty voice and smoke French cigarettes, right?

Tom: Don’t tell them that! The important thing is that we’ll feel superior.

Ava: We will. Let’s get to the news, dear friend.

GAMES NEWS! 14/10/19

Ava: Oh frabjuous Monday! Callooh! Callay!

The borogroves are mimsy with news. Let’s have a gyre and gimble about the wabe, and see if we can slay that news-jabberwocky with our vorpalest swords. Then we can have some uffish thoughts under the tumtum tree, whiffle and burble through the tulgey wood and galumph back home after a job well done.

Let’s get our news-toves slithed.
