SHUX’17 FAQ

 

Q: When is the event?
A: From Friday October 6th (8:00AM PST) to Sunday October 8th (9:00PM PST), 2017.

 

Q: Where is the event?
A: The Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown, floors 3 and 4.

 

Q: What are the show hours?
A: Show hours: 8:00 AM – 2:00 AM daily (Fri-Sat). 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM (Sunday).
Game library hours: 8:00AM – 8:00PM daily.
Expo hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily.

 

Q: Can I purchase tickets at the door?
A: No, the event is sold out, but you can join the wait list by dropping us an email.

 

Q: What do I need if I’m coming from outside of Canada?
A: You need a passport! Yes, even from the US most border crossings now require a valid (not expired) passport.

If you are flying from outside of North America you also need an eTA which costs $7CAD. While this is in many cases included with your airline ticket it is worth double-checking that you have one before flying. The application typically takes only a few minutes.

 

Q: How do I get the SHUX App?
A: Click on the link above or here. Download the app for your device. Open the app, search “SHUX” and click our event!

 

Q: I did not receive an electronic ticket. Is SHUX using tickets or badges?
You can pickup your badge/s at check-in Thursday night or any time during show hours at the SHUX Registration Desk at the Marriott. The person who purchased the tickets will need to pickup all badges bought under their name with photo-ID. If you will not be checking in with the person who purchased your ticket – and you have not already let me know – please get the person who booked the tickets to email me with the name and email address of the person picking up their badge/s. If you arrive late you can pickup your badge from the SHUX Info Booth.

 

Q: Where is the SHUX Registration Booth?
Thursday evening preregistration 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM: Pickup in “The Loft” on the SHUX Map
During show hours 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM: Pickup from “Registration” on the SHUX Map
After hours/Sunday: Pickup from “Info Booth” on the SHUX Map

Q: What are the rules and guidelines for SHUX?

Q: Is there sign up for theatre events?
A: There is no sign up or registration for SHUX events. The theatre will be cleared following all panels. Attendees can line up for a panel as soon as the previous panel has started. For example, if panel start times are 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30; you can line up for the 3:00 panel starting at 1:30 and you can line up for the 4:30 panel starting at 3:00.

For panels on Friday prior to 8pm we have expanded our theatre to accommodate the expected demand of these higher profile panels. Accordingly, as an exception we will not be clearing the theatre between 10 am and 8 pm on Friday. Attendees are welcome to stay in the theatre for all the panels during this period, or line up to attend the next event (doors will be open between events).

 

Q: Is there sign up for “loft” events?
A: Nope, but these are running very frequently (most are every 15 minutes), so head over there and wait for the next game! If demand is high try again later. There are no room clears or anything fancy here, just be respectful of games in progress.

 

Q: Can I join a MegaGame?
A: Tickets have sold out for the MegaGames, but why not check out some of our large party games running in The Loft?

 

Q: Can I buy games at SHUX?
A: Yes, we will have a retail shop on site (provided by Starlit Citadel), and a small merch booth for SU&SD t-shirts and posters. If you buy games online from Starlit Citadel you can specify “Local Pickup” and in the notes write “at SHUX” and you can pickup your pre-purchased games at the show!

 

Q: Can I trade games at SHUX?
A: Yes! Find our official Math Trade here. A Math Trade is a fancy word for a swap, bring games you want to trade away and if someone wants them you will get games on your wish list. If no one has what you want, you won’t trade your game. Simple as that!

 

Q: Should I bring games to SHUX?
A: We have a large lending library of games for you to try if you don’t, but if you have your heart set on a very specific game you might be best to bring it yourself! There will be lots of people there excited to play it with you.

 

Q: Is there an Expo hall like at traditional conventions?
A: A small one! Our focus is really on open spaces for people playing games and Cool Talk by Cool People. We will have a handful of Publishers on-site demoing their latest and greatest.

 

Q: Can I setup a game/RPG/tournament for SHUX?
A: Yes, please use our LFG app/website to schedule and plan your event.

 

Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: Babies under 2 years old are welcome and free to attend, but unfortunately we can’t offer any specialist childcare facilities on-site. Please be cognizant and respectful of the enjoyment and needs of attendees who choose to bring babies or small children. Families and children age 2-12 are also welcome, but we are unfortunately not able to offer discount ticket rates at this time, so they will need a GA ticket.

 

Q: Can I bring outside food or drink into the convention?
A: No.

 

Q: Can I volunteer for SHUX?
A: Please email us for details.

 

Q: I’m an attendee who wants to help make this event awesome. What can I do?
A: You are a very cool person! Make sure you read our Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy here. And just be as friendly and awesome as you can be to everyone around you at the show! If you have some spare time why not wander over to the game library and offer to teach someone a game they haven’t played before?

 

Q: Why can’t I find SHUX in the Eventbase app?
A: If you are searching (SHUX or SHUX’17, all caps, some devices don’t like the lowercase) and cannot find the event, it should be listed in the S section under the Conventions tab.

Eventbase is currently not compatible with Oreo, the newest version of Android. (Thanks JO for letting us know!) They are working on a fix, but it might not be up in time for SHUX. You can view the browser based version here.

All events are also listed here with their times, and there will be paper schedules available at the Info Booth.

 

Q: Can I sponsor SHUX?
A: Yes, please email us for details. Management maintains the right to say no.

 

Q: Is there space for Indie Publishers?
A: Yes, there is an indie corner where we will rotate indie publishers who are prototyping, demoing, and selling their games. [The application period for this has now closed.]

 

Q: How can I cancel my SHUX ticket?
A: If you wish to cancel an order please email us and we will be able to refund the tickets, but will take a fee to cover our transaction costs of both the sale and the refund. These costs will be $20.00 for General Admission tickets, $10.00 for Megagame tickets, and $50.00 for VIP tickets. This saves us from having to build cancellation costs into our ticket prices. NOTE: We will not be able to refund tickets within seven days of the start of the event (midnight PST Sept. 29th).
