You need a passport! Yes, even from the US most border crossings now require a valid (not expired) passport.
If you are flying from outside of North America or on a non-American/non-Canadian passport you also need an eTA which costs $7CAD. While this is in many cases included with your airline ticket it is worth double-checking that you have one before flying. The application typically takes only a few minutes.
You can pickup your badge/s at check-in on Thursday Oct. 11, or any time during show hours at the SHUX Registration Desk. The person who purchased the tickets will need to pickup all badges bought under their name with photo-ID. If you will not be checking in with the person who purchased your ticket – and you have not already let me know – please get the person who booked the tickets to email me with the name and email address of the person picking up their badge/s. If you arrive late you can pickup your badge anytime at SHUX Registration Booth.
The Registration line is inside the event space at the Vancouver Convention Centre East Building, Hall B.
Thursday preregistration times: 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
During show hours: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
Find our Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy here. We will be implementing several new initiatives this year that we hope will make our event even more safe and enjoyable. Please ask for more information at the “Info Booth” or talk to any of our volunteers/”Pearagons.”
SHUX is run with the help of our very lovely volunteers and staff called “Pearagons.”
You can find them in the orange shirts throughout the event, please don’t hesitate to ask for their help!
If you’d like to volunteer at SHUX please let us know.
There is no sign up or registration for SHUX events. The theatre will be cleared following all panels and events. Attendees can line up for a panel as soon as the previous panel has started. For example, if panel start times are 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30; you can line up for the 3:00 panel starting at 1:30 and you can line up for the 4:30 panel starting at 3:00.
Workshops are also first come, first served, so please plan accordingly.
Yes, we will have a retail shop on site (provided by Starlit Citadel), vendors and publishers selling games and goodies, and a merch booth for SU&SD t-shirts and posters. If you buy games online from Starlit Citadel you can specify “Local Pickup” and in the notes write “at SHUX” and you can pickup your pre-purchased games at the show!
All purchases will be in CAD and the merch booth will accept Cash, VISA, MC, Discover & AMEX.
Yes! A Math Trade is a fancy word for a swap, bring games you want to trade away and if someone wants them you will get games on your wish list. If no one has what you want, you won’t trade your game. Simple as that!
We have a large lending library of games for you to try if you don’t, but if you have your heart set on a very specific game you might be best to bring it yourself! There will be lots of people there excited to play it with you.
This year we also have a QR Code scanning system where you can “check-in” your games to our Games Library so other attendees can borrow them during the show, and then you will pick them up from the library at the end of the show. This is of course voluntary, and we can’t guarantee they’ll come back perfect, but last year we didn’t lose a single game, and if anything goes missing we’ll work with the publisher to replace any missing pieces. SHUX guests are the best, and last year most games came back in better order than they went out. If you were thinking of bringing a load of games and weren’t sure where to store them, this might be the option for you! [Games can be checked in at pre-registration on Thursday, or anytime during the show.]
This year there sure is! We’ll have a large expo hall with over 50 booths, and an Indie Avenue featuring different independent designers each day of the show.
You can find the details about who and where here.
Yes, details coming soon!
The “Looking For Group” Lounge is a place to meet new friends and quickly find a new group or game. Or you can grab a flag for your table indicating you need more players to pull-in wanderers!
Babies under 2 years old are welcome and free to attend, but unfortunately we can’t offer any specialist childcare facilities on-site. Please be cognizant and respectful of the enjoyment and needs of attendees who choose to bring babies or small children. Families and children age 2-12 are also welcome, but we are unfortunately not able to offer discount ticket rates at this time, so they will need a GA ticket.
Yes, there is free WiFi in the VCC public areas, which may be accessible from some areas of SHUX. We are also looking into show WiFi, but the costs may be prohibitive. There will be a lot of people accessing these services, so we cannot guarantee dependable WiFi, 3G/4G, or mobile service.
You are a very cool person! Make sure you read our Conduct and Anti-Harassment Policy here. And just be as friendly and awesome as you can be to everyone around you at the show! If you have some spare time why not wander over to the LFG Lounge and offer to teach someone a game they haven’t played before?
Yes, there is an Indie Avenue where we will rotate indie publishers who are prototyping, demoing, and selling their games. [The application period for this has now closed.]
You can cancel your tickets up to 30 days before the show (Sept. 11, 2018).
We’re very sorry but we are unable to process refunds between now and the show. You may still transfer your badges to someone else, please let us know if you do.
